Role Summary

This is an exciting time to join a leading rail company as a Rolling Stock Fleet Manager managing operational passenger fleet.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced rolling stock professional to head up all fleet maintenance, projects and programmes. You will oversee the entire rolling stock engineering budget and be responsible for delivering performance targets.

You will manage in house fleet engineering teams and partner with external suppliers to ensure the optimal performance of operational fleets.

The role

  • Provide the fleet strategy for operational fleet, including input into future projects which may include new fleet introduction and/or major overhaul activities
  • Manage both internal and external workforce and suppliers to meet fleet reliability, performance and operational requirements
  • Represent Rolling Stock within internal and external meetings as part of a wider asset management team
  • Drive continuous improvement projects through fleet engineering
  • Ensure all fleet contractual obligations are met
  • People management including training, development and succession planning
  • Lead change management programmes to secure future fleet outcomes & targets are met
  • Manage the annual budget allocated to rolling stock operations and maintenance
  • Investigate any incidents relating to failures within the fleet

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong people management skills – the ability to proactively manage and motivate a large team and organise both internal and external workforce
  • Previous experience within engineering management for rolling stock – this may include leadership roles within fleet technical management, reliability & performance, maintenance, overhaul, fleet introduction or commercial fleet management / contracts management.
  • Minimum HNC in engineering, ideally degree qualified with relevant memberships or a chartered engineer
  • Ability to manage significant operational budgets and headcount
