Investing in our Engineers
Ganymede host Track Monitoring Appreciation Day to train and upskill EngineersAt Ganymede, we are passionate about investing in our people, ensuring they are empowered, developed and encouraged to learn new skills whenever there is the opportunity. After conversations with clients over recent months, we discovered there was a shortfall between Handback Engineer's undertaking monitoring duties using a cross level (Cant/Gauge) and those using 3D EDM monitoring equipment. As part of our core value 'People are our Passion', our P-Way Technical team worked collaboratively with Collis Engineering to host a Track Monitoring Appreciation Day to upskill Engineers. Working collaboratively in a controlled environmentUtilising the test track at Ganymede's head office, The Derby Conference Centre, the day involved setting up a Trimble Total Station as well as back sight targets. For both the Engineers and our clients in attendance, the day provided a deep understanding for how this equipment is used for track monitoring purposes, showing them what goes into the process from start to finish. Gareth Jackson, P-way Technical Recruitment Consultant said of the event: "It is a massive passion of mine to help develop the next generation of Engineers. With having this controlled environment, it allowed each person to have a go with the equipment and learn off each other. The day was a massive success, with everyone eager to learn and gain more knowledge of how the equipment worked."Continuing in the success of this event, we are in process of planning a dedicated P-Way Recruitment Day, to ensure our newer internal recruitment team members have the expert knowledge and understanding of what goes into working on track. Externally we are in talks with numerous clients, discussing various training requirements that will upskill and develop Engineers, whilst again taking advantage of the test track at Ganymede's head office.Click here for more information on our P-Way Technical expertise.

Leading labour supplier to the rail industry converts used PPE/Workwear into Energy
Leading labour supplier to the rail industry converts used PPE / Workwear into EnergyGanymede Solutions continually look for new initiatives that support them in achieving their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which includes considering environmental impact. As a leading supplier of labour to the rail industry, the sourcing, use and disposal of PPE/Workwear was a key area identified to support this strategy. Together with specialist rail PPE supplier, Safeaid, Ganymede Solutions considered the lifecycle of PPE/Workwear and implemented new recycling facilities. The goals were, firstly, to reduce the amount of PPE/Workwear that is not looked after properly and therefore disposed of before it needs to be. Then, to provide an alternative option to operatives and staff that prevents used clothing going into landfill. Through the recycling operation, instead of ending up in landfill, the shredded textiles are baled and sent on for further processing so that they become refuse derived fuel (RDF). This means that the textile shreds are incinerated to produce steam, which is converted into energy. An education into product lifecycle Ganymede Solutions will be providing learning resources to staff to ensure all PPE is looked after correctly and lasts for as long as possible. Furthermore, the process will be made as easy as possible for operatives to utilise this recycling scheme by having ‘drop and swap’ facilities in eight Ganymede locations across the UK, starting with its office in Wales. The aim is for 25% of staff to use the recycling facility throughout the first year. Gary Lobue, Head of HSEQ said of the new initiative: “We are absolutely thrilled to get this project off the ground, reducing waste to landfill is something we have been working on within our offices, but being able to provide this recycling service to our operatives and staff is fantastic and a testament to our dedication to our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.” Richard Bowen, Managing Director at Safeaid commented: “We are delighted to support Ganymede with PPE recycling facilities. As a business we’re committed to delivering environmentally responsible solutions to our customers to help them achieve their sustainability goals. These include our Signal carbon neutral PPE range which Ganymede also purchase for their workforce.”

Oxford Corridor Project Case Study
Ganymede was appointed by Network Rail as the primary labour supplier for the Oxford Corridor Project to help deliver a package of schemes and improve the Great Western Route. The Great Western route is being modernised to bring passengers faster, more frequent, more reliable services. As both passenger and freight traffic through Oxford continues to grow, Network Rail is delivering a package of schemes including re-signalling, track remodelling and upgrades to increase capacity, connections and route availability for passengers and freight operators. The previous principal contractor for the Oxford Corridor project went into liquidation in 2018, consequently jeopardising planned operations at the time. Without an effective solution, the potential impact would have been operational delays, increased project costs, mass workforce redundancies and failure to meet key strategic project milestones. The Solution:With the involuntary change in the contract landscape, Network Rail became the principal contractor and formed the Western Enhancement Delivery (WED) division and Ganymede was appointed by WED as the primary labour supplier for the project. To enable a smooth integration within the 21-day time frame, Ganymede needed to win the hearts and minds of the incumbent workforce who were in turmoil with the uncertainty surrounding their positions. Equally, it required the creation of a new account management / resource team who could implement robust resource plans to meet the intended skilled labour uplifts for the duration of the project but, namely to meet the non-standard blockade programmed in four weeks after the resource contract was taken over by Ganymede.Key Facts:Ganymede integrated an incumbent workforce of over 60 individuals, completed relevant compliance checks, developed a training programme and provided a fleet of vehicles including telematics and driver induction/training, all within the project’s tight timescale of 21-days.Ganymede helped to deliver four successful commissionings over three blockades for a new track layout and signalling system. The project included a mixture of track and civil works including track renewals, station refurbishment, piling and end wall construction, demolition, track formation and acoustic barrier installation. At peak we were regularly deploying and managing over 150 personnel at the project in Oxford. All works were delivered without any lost time accidents or incidents. Including the delivery of a major 21-day blockade that required a 150% uplift of resources.Following on from the Oxford Corridor Project, Ganymede continues to support Network Rail (WED) with resources on other projects.Value Added:An integrated Oxford delivery structure was created by key figures from Ganymede and Network Rail senior management team. The newly created dedicated account management team held a series of consultation events at the project depot. This helped allay any fears the project team had and introduced all the operatives to Ganymede. These events were pivotal in outlining the opportunities on the project, our plans as a business moving forward and the expectations from passengers. The programme involved a 21-day implementation time-frame for Ganymede to compliantly ensure the smooth integration of the incumbent workforce. Over 60 individuals were consulted and contracted to Ganymede resulting in no losses of any jobs. The Ganymede fleet department successfully sourced a large fleet of vehicles on to the project through our supply chain, ensuring business as usual from day one of the newly formed collaboration. As part of the staff transition / integration process and in preparation to the forthcoming planned blockade, we held a series of Safety Moment events. This enabled us to embed our safety culture, identify any skills gaps and develop a dedicated training programme.Fundamental to the blockade’s success, was the fact we ensured every shift had internal resource management or our safety team on site. Part of the process also included site update reports every 12 hours to the WED project team. The report outlined real time progress with information on planned work against programme, resource updates, safety close call reporting and resolution, safety status and potential contingency requirements. The ResultThrough a positive safety culture and a passionate resourceful attitude, the Oxford Corridor project was a major success. More importantly, all works were delivered without any lost time accidents or incidents, there were no overruns throughout the life of the project and all the works were delivered on time and within budget.Following on from the success of the Oxford Corridor Project, Ganymede continue to support the WED project team with resources for their ongoing projects.“As you know we completed what we can only be described as a significant piece of work in the Oxford area. We delivered a major milestone in the project successfully and with very few real issues. The professionalism on the WED team has been excellence and the attitudes great. I’m really proud of what we have all achieved as a team and am really grateful to you all. On the Whole I’ve been really impressed with the Ganymede team in taking on the mantel since Carillion’s demise and supporting Network Rail with the continued delivery of the Oxford project. I’ve found everybody in Ganymede has wanted to help an support that delivery and resolve any issues quickly. You should all be really proud of this team, well done and thank you.” Senior Programme Manager, Western Enhancements Delivery – Network RailGet in TouchUse the form below to contact us today about how we can add value to your business.

Safety Moment Events - Summer 2023
Ganymede are delighted to share the success of our Summer 2023 Safety Moment events Taking place across the UK in Scotland, Kent, Wales and Doncaster, Ganymede Safety Moment events are held once a quarter and give our rail operatives the opportunity to hear about the latest safety initiatives and industry messages. We also use these events to encourage our workforce to #SpeakUp, ask questions and voice their thoughts and any concerns. The focus of our Summer 2023 Safety Moments was around our #SpeakUp and encouraging Close Call reporting. We also explained the importance of reporting accidents and incidents immediately to Ganymede and briefed our operatives on the fair culture and how it is used to protect any individuals involved, ensuring any actions implemented are fair.We also briefed the Network Rail Electrical Step Up to Safety. The Electrical Safety Step-Up is part of the wider Culture Industry Approach strategy to address cultural change and recommendations from recent electrical incidents around both the overhead line and conductor rail electrification systems.”As always, it was pleasing to see an excellent turn out for these events, and it is fantastic to see just how engaged our operatives are in our Safety First, Safety Always ethos.Gary Lobue, Head of HSEQ said of the events:“It was well worth the visits and the time spent at our local offices meeting many of our workers to share our safety, health and wellbeing initiatives and messages through the promotion of our Speak Up campaign.I don’t think you can beat face to face engagement with your frontline workforce, who are the most valuable persons within any business. Meeting these individuals brought out all the passion and emotion that I have for their safety, as honest conversations and discussions developed between us all ensuring 2-way communications were achieved throughout."We trust all attendees found the sessions useful and engaging. As a business we are committed to raising awareness and sharing safety messages to our workforce to help keep everyone safe so the value in these sessions cannot be understated. The next series of Safety Moment events will resume in the Autumn.

Our team at Terex found the Ganymede Connect extremely helpful towards filling one of our recent vacant roles. The video software gave us the opportunity to be involved right from the beginning and have increased visibility and control of the shortlisting process. The video screening was not only super-fast and efficient but also made the whole experience a lot more personal and interactive. I would definitely recommend it for any business and candidates who want to make the most out of the process
